Tested Air is published by Rudderberry, LLC, a small Florida company. These are the rules every page on the site follows.
We use public agencies and published research
Health and safety information comes from the EPA, the CDC, AirNow, the California Air Resources Board, state health agencies and peer-reviewed studies. We don't use product makers, sales sites or forums as sources.
Data comes from the EPA's AirData files and the CDC's Environmental Public Health Tracking Network. The sources page lists every file, where it came from and what it can't tell you.
We check every claim against its source
Every number, health effect, price and step in a guide is checked against a source page we open on the day of the review. A claim that matches stays. A claim that doesn't gets reworded to match the source or cut. If we can't confirm something, we leave it out.
Each guide lists its sources and shows the date it was last reviewed. We review every page at least once a year, and sooner when an agency changes its advice or the AQI.
We use AI tools to help draft pages and to check them against their sources. A tool's output never goes on the site without being checked against the sources listed on the page.
We write about health calmly and exactly
- We don't call air "safe." We say how many days a year it crossed the EPA's lines, and who those lines are meant to protect.
- We say who is most at risk: children, older adults, people who work or exercise outdoors, and people with asthma, heart disease or lung disease.
- We explain numbers in a way people can picture, like "about 1 day in 5," and give exact figures in tables.
- When our two data sources disagree, we say so on the page.
How we pick air purifiers
We name a purifier only if its smoke CADR (clean air delivery rate) is in the AHAM Verifide directory, where units bought at random are tested at an independent lab, and the California Air Resources Board certifies it as a mechanical cleaner that makes no ozone. We then compare verified smoke CADR per dollar at the maker's current price. Some popular brands don't pass these checks, so we leave them out.
Money doesn't change what we recommend
We plan to earn money from affiliate links to air purifiers and filters. We pick by the rules above first, then look for a place to buy. We also tell you when you don't need to buy anything. How we make money has the details.
We fix mistakes and say when
If you spot a mistake, a broken link or a number that doesn't look right, email hello@testedair.com. We check it against the source, fix the page if we got it wrong, and update the date on the page.
